A Toronto City Council vote was taken in May, 2023 for the immediate ban of cars on weekends and holidays, followed by the potential for a 7 days a week car ban by 2027.

I have just signed the “High Park Access for All” petition because I oppose the High Park Movement Strategy (HPMS). A permanent vehicle closure in 2027 will make the park inaccessible to seniors, young families, and people with mobility challenges. It will make it harder for recreational youth sports leagues to schedule, make it needlessly difficult to plan large community events, send children’s summer camps elsewhere, turn the park into a winter wasteland, and presents security issues for unaccompanied children and women. And it is completely hypocritical that the City has no AODA plan for High Park, or year-round bus and shuttle service.

High Park is over 150 years old and during that time has witnessed all kinds of activities and events and must continue to do so. Closing High Park to vehicles does not respect those who rely, enjoy, and use the park for its facilities and wonderful natural habitat on a regular basis.  I trust that as my Councillor, you will reconsider this matter
